Other player messing with you is a part of the game, He has year behind him, he knew that. I bet he has even done it. But nothing could allow a sucked hit like that in a dangerous area like that, let alone leaving his team without thier best PK. Loser is the word

The man wasn't thinking about what would happen and it was really stupid. He not only ended soccer by getting kicked out but he was a good reason for there team losing. HE DESERVED IT!!!!

I HATE ITALY!!!!!!! I HATE ITALy!!!!!!!!!!!
Like the commentator said -- 1st they broke German hearts (sob!) and now French hearts. B's!! I want to yell out a string of abuses but I don't want Y! to kick ME off!!!! Getting Zidane --the player of the DECADE sent off???!!
THOSE CHEATS!!!!!
It must have been something really bad or Zidane wouldn't have head-butted him and gone off and left his team --I didnt even see him come back for his medal!! Poor guy! What an end to an awesome career --He was -(I still want to say 'is')- untouchable. Not 1 foul the whole World Cup. What a guy!!
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN THE DRESSING ROOM? Why didn't he come back?
That italian guy should be bashed up! I can't stand these young upstarts who try to upstage legends. Italian Pipsqueak!
Zidane- has his own song, a player with charisma, was supposed to get 'The golden ball' award, supposed to have a movie made after him --and now??? So sad how life has a way that 1 moment can change your whole life. I want to believe that there are 2nd chances, but I just don't know what to think now. When France won against Portugal, all of them were jumping around like lunatics, thrusting around probably worse than Shakira!- but Zidane, such a gentleman to the end, stood his ground, smiling, hugging people. Zidane.. Zezou.. Zezou zeZou ZeZou..la ..la.. I'll sing your song to the end.. zezou... Zezou-Zezou ZEzou.....ZeZOU

dorian_gray is right..you can't judge a man by one action. Obviously it was a really bad move and he should not have done it! But unfortunately Zizou was caught up in the heat of the moment and reacted to Materazzi. We must also take into account what Materazzi had said to make Zidane so furious as to headbutt him with such force like that. Although it was really appalling behaviour by Zidane, we shouldn't let slip in our minds his huge contribution to football. He is a footballing legend! Leave aside the ferocious headbutting incident, he seems a pretty formidable individual. For now lets await the story behind his action! =)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I dont think so
Zidane is a great player and definitely know what sportsmanship is
and he has a big history which is full of honor
and what he did today doesn't mean that he doesn't know what sportsmanship is.
NOone can deny his great history.
I just blame him because it was his final match and he had to say goodbye to the world in a better way not as kicked off
but anyways he is the best...

Your so fricken wrong. That had nothing to do with sportsmanship. What if you were playing a game and som eone on the other team comes up to you and starts teasing and talking stink about you, your family, teammates, frends. I mean I would have done the same thing or maybe something worse. You have to think about both sides of view deary.

For every action there is a reaction. DId it ever occur to you that whatever Materazzi said started the entire episode and is also not an example of good sportsmanship.

Actually the Italians don't know anything about sportsmanship - they are undeserving of the victory & they are the worst cheats on this planet!

This is very unfortunate for him to end his career that way but sometimes when we get caught up in the moment we do stupid things. He didn't see this one coming. Sometimes it's good to remain humble. "it is said a soft answer turned away wrath" but at the same time you have to stand up for yourself. It's pretty sad I wouldn't want to be his shoes right now.

Sad but true. Especially considering today was his last match. He went completely insane, never in the world I imagined he'd do something like that.
