Buy two flat sheets a size larger than your bed. (For example, if your bed's a full size, buy two queen size flat sheets.) Choose two patterns you like and that complement each other. With a sewing machine, sew three sides together, wrong sides on top of course. On the fourth side (either the head or the foot of the bed), sew on buttons and make buttonholes. Voila! You have a duvet that suits your taste and that is reversible.

You can make it without a pattern. Just measure your duvet and add at least 1/2 in. for the seam allowance and add the thickness measurement of the duvet filler. Make sure you add it twice because there are 2 sides of the duvet and thickness takes up a lot of space.( If your duvet filler is 3 in. thick add 6 in. to the width of you material) Also measure the length and add the thickness twice again for it's length and and add the seam allowance there also. If you are doing a buttom up one remember to have a large nice hem at the top so your seams will not show. It is easier to do the exact length plus thickness and seam allowance and put a simple hem at the top. Then add ties made form the same or a cordinating material or decorative rope, denim, etc. Tie it up and then you are finished! And you made it yourself and didn't spend $10 -$20 on a pattern that you will never use again!

Try using 2 flat sheets! use 2 inch ribon and tie them together or make button holes and sew on buttons to keep the duvet closed. I would use 300 count sheets or higher for a nice soft duvet :o)
Hope this helps

Go to a sewing center and get a pattern or just use your imagination and make your own pattern.
