My 5 week old baby has a nasty rash on her chin and her face, places where breastmilk spilled on her while feeding. My breasts spring really fast espeacially when she is on them, if she lets go, milk starts spraying all over bthe place and some end up on her face. How can I prevent her face from being burned by the breastmilk and what can I do get rid of the rash that is already there?"

Breast milk doesn't burn. If your baby developed a rash from contact with your milk, it indicates an allergy; it is the protein from the allergenic food that is passed through your milk that could be causing the problem. In fact, one *treatment* for a rash is to put pumped milk on it!! And if it *is* an allergy, switching to formula will only make it worse, as the baby will be getting the allergen directly instead of filtered through your body!! It is absolutely *impossible* for a baby to be allergic to your milk, too.

If your baby is allergic to something, it is almost always cow's milk. If you eliminate all dairy (including "hidden dairy"--any food with whey, casein, or an ingredient with "lact" in it) from your diet for at least 2 weeks, you will know if this is the problem.

Although it is rare, some babies have allergies to their mom's breast milk. She should not be getting a rash. Take her to her doctor and have her checked out. It could also be something that you are eating that is in your breast milk that is causing this to happen.

1. Eat healthy.
2. Wash your face atleast 3 times daily.
3. Use lesser chemical products on your skin as they clog pores unnecessarily
4. If you put on make up, check it's compatibility with your skin.
5. Go natural. There are a lot of ayurvedic medicines for acne like Evergel 90 by Prakruti JiyoFresh.

Peace!

Not only does not breastmilk not burn, it can actually be quite healing. So the breastmilk itself is not the problem - it may be just because the damp area is becoming chapped. Make sure you dry it off properly after feeding and maybe apply a light barrier cream.

This could also be baby acne, a condition all 4 of my children have suffered from. It looks awful but goes away by itself after a while.

Are you sure it is from your breast milk? It could be from something else. Contrary to popular beliefe babies do not have the smooth flawless skin we think.
Contact your babys doctor and talk to him/her about it.
