It really wasn't his fault. He just said something to the dude, that don't give him the right to butt him in the chest. doesn't he know he has a hard head? if I were him I would've waited until after the match. Hasn't he heard of the Italian Mafia? if I were him I'd probably be looking forward to the day of the Don's daughter's wedding. It was also partly the coaches fault. He should've taken him out. Zidane was hurt, pissed, tired and old.

the Italian Mafia thing is pretty random so forget that. the Materazzi did hold Zidane but Ribery did the same thing to some other dude when they were supposed to get a corner kick. he didn't get pissed.

the Russian Mafia is way more deadlier than the Italian Mafia though.

Ok, Zidane might be oldER but he's skilled, so let's not hold the man's age against him. ^_^

BUT - I agree. A head butt was NOT called for. This is a World Cup game and you don't lose your cool like that, no matter what the other side does. I don't know what Materazzi did or said, but Z needed to be a professional about this. Leave the school yard antics for anywhere else but here.

Listen lady!
Materazzi will never be the player that Zidane is! Even in this game , even being hurt, pissed, tired and old, he was the best player and he should have be awarded the man of the match if that thing didn't happen.
And France should have won if he was there, I'm sure of that.
Zidane is an experienced player and he wouldn't react like that only if Materazzi said a very humiliating or bad thing.
...And I'm sure that Materazzi didn't got all that he deserved cause if such a professional like Zidane did that , then it was a very very serious thing, so Zizou should not have stop after the butt in the chest!

I`m Italian...and obviously I watched the whole match (anxiously...). I don`t know what Materazzi told Zidane, but it seems to me it wasn`t anything offensive...
Anyway, I didn`t understand why you mentioned the Italian Mafia...

I never like Materazzi couse he plays like Portuguese player (you know what I mean). Italy may win the World Cup, Bufon plays well, but Materazzi doesn’t deserve the celebration (shame on him).
Is fair play still the motto for football? Or its been change to be provoking and diving? (if it has change, than I’m surely will never ever watch this game…..)

Zinedine Zidane did something stupid and only he knows why. Maybe he does not even know. That might be just one of these impulsive things that we all do. Doesn't matter what the Italian player said. Provocations are part of the game. You hit you're out. Period. And I did like Zidane too.

I thought initially it was just verbal, but I have now heard that it was actually physical. And when it is initiated by a physical attack, the starter gets the blame. Shame on Materazzi, I hope something horrible happens to him because of this.

It doesn't matter what Marco said, trying to bait the other players (trash talking) is part of the game. You try and make ppl lose their cool so they do stupid things and you get the advantage. Which is exactly What Marco did! He got to ZZ. ZZ is a professiional and has been for years, he knows how the game is played. I'm sure Marco was not the only one throwing insults out there. Headbutting ppl is never acceptable...although it does make the game more exciting! LOL

I don't think everyone is blaming him for zidane's mistake. I think people are like he probably said something really really terrible and completely uncalled for, but it's Zidane's own fault for acting so unsportsman-like. Headbutt the guy later if he wants, but not during the championship game.

Because Metarazzi held Zidane from the back while in game.

actually the real reason they are angry is because
1 Materazzi scored the beautiful header.

2 He was spotless ( other than penalty ) in defence.

3 he took a perfect penalty kick.
