Just like Tony said, it's no different than someone who has a manual trans pushing the clutch in just don't hit reverse(or park), if you're doing this to stop better you got it all wrong, try down shifting, that will use you're engine to slow you down and give you more vacuum for power brakes

it shouldn't cause any problems at all I have a car that I used to have to do that to because the switch in the transmission was messed up and it wouldn't idle in drive sitting at stop lights and I did that for well over a year and caused no damage at all to it

Wow...there advantageous are some over complicated solutions here. before everything there is not any gas financial device gained by employing doing this. a minimum of no longer adequate to make it area of your widespread employing. in case you may desire to do it nonetheless, it won't harm something to shift it to independent whilst employing, purely make advantageous once you shift back to tension you gain this till now attempting to develop up, in any different case it is going to "slam" into kit and that could desire to reason some harm. shifting into independent won't make you lose administration of the motor vehicle, it is going to easily preclude you from accelerating. Your steerage and braking is purely no longer affected. It quite isn't smart to even problem with it. purely keep it in tension so which you are going to need your palms unfastened to textual content fabric!

NO, it won't cause a problem unless you bump it into reverse. Does seem a little unnecessary, though. All you are doing is taking it out of gear. That does not damage anything.
