Just a thought...I have recently began having brown spots in my yard but I finally figured out what it was...the exhaust from the riding mower that I bought two months ago. Wherever I stop and change gears or pause for a few seconds I end up with a nice brown patch of grass where I'd never had a problem before.

Another consideration would be grub worms, they eat the roots and cause those brown patches as well.

You should only water 3 times a week for an inch at a time. The roots need a couple of days in between to dry out some and strengthen, especially if the grass is shaded in some areas..

Usually fungus is because too much moisture which is sometimes caused by night watering of your lawn. You should know if your lawn is lacking water, because the grass gets a grayish green color and looks unhealthy. Outside of the previous answer above, animal urine will cause brown patches too.

My friend had the same problem awhile back and believe it or not, it was caused by a neighborhood female dog taking a squat on his lawn. He had the brown spots analyzed and that was what the report said. Her urine was causing the brown spots.
I thought it was funny he went so far as to have them analyzed, but then I realized how hard he has worked on that lawn.
Good luck.
