You might have DirectX 9 but you may not have DirectX 9 hardware. What kind of graphics card do you have? You also may not have the latest version of DirectX 9 installed. But, if the game installs and functions correctly (and assuming you have a card that supports DX9 and the latest version of it) then just ignore it.

Okay, here's the problem, if memory serves the Geforce4 MX series does not support DirectX 9 though you can have it installed not all the features are supported by that GPU. You'll need to get another graphics card (anything in the FX, 6 or 7 series will support DirectX 9). That being said... are the other games really using DirectX 9 because if they can't use DirectX 9 they will revert back to DX8 or DX7 renders. Some modern games require to use DirectX 9c.

It's sort of a convoluted situation here. What game is it and maybe I can dig up some more information about this?

The Geforce 4 series does not support DirectX 9, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_4 and as I said the games were likely using DirectX 8 renders instead. I could still be wrong but I am fairly confident that this is the situation.

Okay, here's the thing, I know for a fact that the Geforce4 MX does not support DirectX 9, at least not all of the features. It is possible to have DirectX 9 installed without it working with the hardware, my original statements stand. However, considering the GPU support for the game, you do not need DirectX 9 hardware support in order to run the game. So, if you can skip this step, do so. Someone suggested uninstalling the game and DirectX and then reinstalling them, do so, though I've never tried to uninstall DirectX before, I can't tell you what will happen on that front.

Is it telling you it has to install it or it won't work, or just saying that you need it? In other words, is it actually saying you don't have it? Also, check that you have DirectX 9.0c, and not just 9.0.
