Truth is relative, it's just a small facet of reality. We are not always told the truth because we haven't expanded our idea of reality. if you could have told a person a human being will be able to fly back before the wilbur bros took flight, nodoby would have accepted that "truth". But that truth has been expanded to the point that we can go to space.
Of course there's also the fact that truth at times had been withheld from us in order to "protect" us or to "protect" the one giving the answer. I.E. a child asking their parents were do babies come from?

The only way you would know you had not been told the truth, would be to know the truth. If you don't know the truth, you don't know if you have not been told the truth.

You were told some of the truth (some general truth), but you rejected it, so God allowed Satan to blind you to the rest of it (the more specific truth)

we hold the truth of the entire universe in ourselves on a cellular level. before we enter this particular body....we consciously choose to give ourselves a type of "amnesia" so we can grow in human form and gain wisdom to know ourselves a bit better every time we travel to earth. and when we "die" . we will know the truth once more.. and the cycle of soul growth continues. blessings.. :)
