Zidane knew that France were goingt to lose and this was his last game, so he decided to exit in a way that everyone would remember and so that everyone would talk about what he did instead of the victory of italy... Zidane went out with a real bang! So he will be remembered forever for what he did to materazzi and perhaps he hopes that the blame will fall on this so the rest of his team mates don;t get so much of a hard time....

I think that he was frustrated and he lost it! I don't think that it was planned in advance... I wasn't amazed by the quality of the game. 2 goals in 15 minutes and then nothing.
Buffon couldn't stop the penalty kicks, the Frech missed it... He couldn't stop Zidane's one either...

Interesting theory except this isn't the first time Zidane has gotten a red card for being a thug in the World Cup. He's been cited as the only flaw in his games tends to be his quick temper.

Back in 1998 - he stomped the back of the Saudi Arabia midfielder. Earned himslef a red card plus FIFA considered his actions bad enough that instead of the standard 1 game suspension - he was suspended for 2 matches. Just like the thug Rooney.

I'm not sure where your logic comes from. France was clearly playing a much better game than Italy. I think the idea that Zidane threw a game to take attention away from Italy's win is just a bit too far-fetched.

That's so sweet of you too think that really, but it seemed more in the heat of the moment, than something pre-planned.
