No video games do not cause violence any more then watching "Pirates of the Caribbeans" will cause you to become a violent pirate.

The problem however may arise with people that mentally can not distinguish the difference between a game and reality. In that case it does not matter what game you play video game or softball, where a person that can not differentiate a game from reality will hit you over the head with a bat.

Up till now there are a lot more incidents of people killed or injured by baseball bat and hockey sticks in softball and hockey than "video lunatics"

yes and no. they can cause kids espcially preteens to become facinated with violence for instance when they see some guy get his head blown off and then win the game they associate the violence with winning but its not the only factor its just one. if the kid has a bad or good home life comes into play. its up to parents to teach the kids what is good and what is bad and if the parents install good values into the kids at a young age then the violent video games shouldnt have such a drastic effect. no one thing can be linked to violence in people.

btw im a 16 yr old who plays violent video games but i dont go out and get in fights or other violent things like that.

The videogames with violence are often played by the youth, who are influenced heavily by what they hear and see. So if they see the violence in the games, they may feel compelled to portray it in real life with the mindset that violence is the key to solving issues in real life. You could basically call it "brainwashing".

No. People are always trying to shift blame away from themselves and onto other things. After all, books that glorified violence and war have been around since ancient times.

No, we dictate our own actions ... the Q should be does anyone try to manipulate people through video games to help promote violent tendencies ;-)

I love fighting games, b/c I kick but! That doesn't mean I like to fight in real life though, I'm actually very reluctant... I like non-violence :)

Everything contributes to violence. Movies, music, environment, video games, etc..... Every time a kid tries to emulate a character in a violent manner then it contributes to violence.

no they dont....they just need someone to blame it all on...and besides u'd have to be really stupid to blame the violence u cause on videogames and it being acutally true

its just a scapegoat. its easier for ppl to blame a game instead of the kid or the kids parents.

look at columbine. people blame DOOM for that. but they dont blame the school who didnt pay attention to the bullying of the kids, the parents who didnt lock their guns up good enough, or someone who didnt notice the kids had problems

No, it's the person that plays the game. games don't make people do stuff. if someone blames what they do on a video game then there was something wrong with them from the start.
