It depends on what you like and what exactly you mean my Northern California. Gualala is beautiful, Petaluma is nice and quiet and has great places to eat (try Dempsey's for a nice pitcher of microbrew & delicious fresh food), & San Francisco (Night Life, Japantown, Chinatown) is a must. Wine tasting & hot air balloon ride in Napa/Sonoma. If you want some good old country fun, try the farm trails (look online) in Sonoma County (Sebastopol) or go to Apple Hill (Placerville area). Cool family fun would include a ride on the Skunk train and a stay in a tent or cabin at the Willits KOA (Skunk train picks up from there) and maybe a night or two in Fort Bragg. All depends on what is "cool" to you.

In San Francisco: Alcatraz, Chinatown, North Beach, Union Square Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf. You can even bike across the Golden Gate Bridge from Pier 39 to Sausalito, and/or ferry to Tiburon and back. Muir Woods, Napa/Sonoma Wine Country, Jack London Square, Monterey Bay (Aquarium and Cannery Row), Half Moon Bay, 17 Mile Drive, Pebble Beach.. so many place, so little time! Enjoy!

Well if you're in San Luis Obispo county, there's always Hearst Castle. It's really more on the Central Coast but it's got really great tours and the architecture is astonishing. Hopefully this helps...
