Well, I don't agree that Italy was the best of the two finalists - they were, throughout the whole tournament, the best at 'diving' e.g. pretending they were fouled by an opponent. At the same time their players are very good at fouling other players in the background. This is so unsportsmanlike that I can only say: thumbs down!
Sorry about the British, too. British soccer seems to be a legend from the past.
Argentina was a nice surprise, Germany a very big surprise: two years ago, the german team was a bunch of mournful losers, and now they made it almost to the top. Portugal was alright, but not a real champion.
And the great champion, Brazil???
Did they play at all?

I thought Argentina played very well in the tournament. Let down by the scenes in their defeat on pens to the Germans but footballing wise very good, technically very very good and they scored the best team goal of the tournament.
Germany fantastic. A good mixture of youth and experience and definately a team going somewhere. Usually slow starters and methodical but this time very good attacking, great use of the full backs and wingers, scored the most goals in the tournament and a team for the future.
I think then you still have to include Brazil because they love to attack and turn it on. Not the best Brazil team, not great defending but the fact that you often see their defenders furthest forward says a lot about the way they play the game, and to me thats magical. Finally I would put (and many wouldnt) the Ivory Coast in there. They were physically strong, loved to attack, were unlucky to be drawn with Argentina and Holland. They played with a smile and were unfortunate they did not have more experience as they had chances.
My team England have some of the most gifted players, but unfortunately the manager had certain idea's of how to play and then to lose Owen, only have a semi fit Rooney and Sven didnt take proven goalscorers as back up they fell short. But a good bet for the future.

Someone said Argentina were the best teammmmSure, thats why they went out in the quarter finals, amd as for Ghana donig well to beat america...since when did you have to play well to beat america.
Overall Italy deserved it. Its hard to separate the WHO PLAYED BEST question from the issues around all the cheating and diving. it was impossible to escape and its what this world cup will be remembered for.
which is sad for the once beautiful game.

We should be remembering the hard as nails underdogs who took the game to the favourite magicians like
1. Australia - Italy (SICKENING)
2. Ghana
3. Trinidad - Sweden
4. Ivory Coast
These were all debutants and all gave World class nations a run for their money.

1) Argentina...all round the best team in the cup
2) Germany...I don't like them, but DAMM did they play good in the knock out phase
3)Portugal...great mix of players, they just didn't have enough push in the end.
4) Spain....great team, great skill....but always short...maybe in 4 years.

I half agree. I think it should have been like this:
1) Germany
2) France
3) Italy
4) Portugal
I'm brazilian but Brazil should have been out of the world cup beor it started instead of having all that luck against Croatia, Australia, and Japan.

1-Argentina, brilliant in group stages and should have beaten germany
2-Germany, was set up for them to win it and unlucky to lose to italy
3- Italy, defended well and actually attacked for once which was a nice change
4-Ghana, played really well in group stages to beat USA and Czech Republic, very attacking and a breath of fresh air
