i dont know wat happened. but i think the referee`s decision to give him a straight red card was a good one. there was no excuse and its a shame zidane ended his career with a red card.

btw, did zidane get a medal? coz he didnt go up there to the stage to get one. just wondering.

Ok, all you haters HAVE to stop this... Italians: we're happy for you, calebrate, have fun, be proud... but dont be obnoxious!
Now, that whole Zidane thing...i heard so many stories... whether Materazzi insulted his mother. his race, his religion or whatever, the fact it, he MUST have said something nasty. Something so vicious that it triggered Zizou. Anybody who knows anything about Zidane, knows that he's an amazing athelete and football player, and he's not known to be violent. So, stop for a minute and think about it. Knowing that they're so close of winning, that his whole team, country and fans arround the world are behind him, knowing that cameras are on him and everybody's watching, why would he do that unless Meterazzi REALLY DID say something hurtful. Ok, maybe Zizou should have walked away instead, but he's only human. Any human with his tiredness, under the exact same pressure could have snapped. So give the guy a break, dont be jealous cuz he was the best player of the 2006 Worldcup, dont be a hater...You CAN be proud of your country without being a hater towards the other ones. France played amazingly... as a team... Henry, Trezeguet, Thuram, Viera, Ribery....Zidane. So, dont just stop at whats right in front of you and look at the big picture, look further... He made a mistake, he regrets it. Materazzi shouldnt have been so dirty just cuz he wishes he was half as good as Zinedine Zidane. We're only human, he's only human.

Maybe thats why Zidane was so good during his career after all - because he's pasionate. So it worked in Italy's favor after all, but what the heck, Italians are used to getting things the easy way. Half of their team is involved in a game-fixing scandal and that's the best team in the world? I don't know... That's how football is today I guess, but as far as Zidane goes the end doesn't matter - everyone predicted them to fall to Spain or Brazil - the bottom line is with or without the red card the guy is still gonna be remembered as a wiz on the pitch and for Materazzi - just another lucky goon.

Yeah Yeah everyone here relaxing blaming Zidane for what he did. Not realising that being under the pressure of press and spot light is not that easy, they played a tough game, and the French were the best, he screwed up after that Materazzi was hassling him, I don't know what he said but am sure it was so bad. Must be about his race, family or any typical thing that is said to an immigrant. Anyway Zidane made a big mistake; he is eventually a human being. But I hope this cloud could really fade away, since he and his fellows did great to France. Probably we should now blame the press for only glorifying him , neglecting the integration in the French team, Thuram, Henry , Ribery and all other players were the best at that game. Just luck was standing beside Italy.

He was not allowed to go out to get the medal like other players and reserved players and their officials. Funny isnt it? However, he get what he deserve, Materazzi too. That mistake is just a mistake, many bloody kung fu kicks and karate chop happens in football fields all around the world. Some were documented many are not.

Materazzi is the man of the match, scorer , get Zidane off-er and the great insultor too. He showed that very well in the final.

So
IF you want to bring your country to the world cup you can go and see Zidane. But remember to keep cool and dont head butt people even when they talk dirty about your beloved mom and dad!

IF you want more, you have to see Materazzi, he knows the magic spell to cast away best players in the opponents team!

Anyway that was just for fun! No hearts feeling MR Materazi and Zidane.

If I was Zidance I would kick Marco Materazzi too if Marco Materazzi insulted me. Zidane is a human too. Marco Materazzi should be banned from football. New York Post is owned by An Italian, beside Zidane walked away and Marco Materazzi kept mocking Zidane. Marco Materazzi is a worst person on this planet

Well friends - do not forget that inspite of holding an high responsible position , afterall ZIDANE is a human being not a saint- we can clearly see a laughing cool face of zidane suddenly turning red and headbutting Materazzi- involuntarily , pls remember involuntary actions can never be controled - so here our Cool Hero was insulted to an extreme extent that even blinded his mind that he is the captain of the French team playing the World Cup final match. So we should really punish /acuse Materazzi for provoking and driving him to do so. The lip readers have clealy revealed that Materazzi has said words like UGLY - TERRORIST- PROSTITUTE - F___ YOURSELF - which are highly insulting and breaks the moral values for which any sport is played. This is an preplanned ,foxy action by the Italian just to make an advantage to win the World cup.So friends if u think that u can stand these words if someone utters to u - then u can say no excuse to Zidane

It is very obvious the italian player said something very bad. After the italian player grabbed his shirt Zidane walked away minding his own business then if you look at materazzi's face while zidane was walking away materazzi must have said something bad enough to trigger Zidane off. The ref did not even look at it at the time of the hit. This was based on re-plays. It was a new rule to catch those who push players behind the ref during the world cup. for the future, there should be a new rule to monitor what every player says during the game. Verbal and Phyical abuse are serious and if we don't know the verbal part, we cannot assume it was Zidane's fault and put him down

It would be a combination of interactions between Materazzi and Zidane and the emotional nature of the situation. When there is a major prize involved, some people tend to overreact and let their emotions take over. I believe both of the players overreacted in their ways. Both players were intending to be lighthearted, but Materazzi ended up saying something that insulted Zidane. That is probably why Zidane responded in that fashion towards Materazzi...

Why wasnt Figo red carded for his headbutt ? No mention in the press about Figo career being ruined by his action. The Portugese acted with violence and "gamesmenship" in every stage of the World Cup.
I thought it was interesting that France V Italy was like a replay of England V Portugal with the best penalty takers removed prior to the Shoot out - same referee same conclusion, if the referee had acted when Zidane was being held then the head butt wouldnt have taken place.
Materazzi is a very big guy and has prison tattoos all over his arms and is obviously no stranger to contraversy he said the wrong thing to the wrong guy I guess he was lucky he said what he did on the pitch and not in a bar in the back streets of Marselle.

I am also agree with you guys but just like to answer about what happened between Materazzi and Zidane.
This I got from Wikipedia. Read carefully.

Alain Migliaccio, Zidane's agent, told BBC "[Zinedine] told me Materazzi said something very serious to him but he wouldn't tell me what,"[3]. According to other sources including The Globe & Mail [4], the Toronto Star[5], or the Guardian[6], it was later disclosed that Zidane's physical violence had been a response to Materazzi's use of racist and offensive language in reference to Zidane's ethnic and religious background. SOS Racism a Paris based group has stated that it heard from "close sources" that Materazzi referred to Zidane as a "dirty terrorist". Materazzi has fiercely denied this; however, SOS Racism has requested FIFA sanction Materazzi. [7] After Zidane's exit, Materazzi went on to score Italy's second penalty in the shoot-out, which Italy won 5-3, to win the FIFA World Cup.
