Zidane and Materazzi (the Italian player) exchanged some words
while walking down the field and it's obvious the Italian player must have said something 'racially-related' to make him lose his temper in a such a manner.
Whatever IT was that instigated the temper, his actions should not be justified. I liked Zidane a lot, but his worst side came out today and I wouldn't be surprised if his fans lose some respect for him -- you just don't act like that!
He let down not only his team, but his fans and his nation.
But the other guy that replied to you ( asker! ) and said that "Zidane is not like that.." needs to hear what the news reports claim. The following is from a Fox Sports news article found here:
http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/5760742?FSO1&ATT=HMA
His temper has always been another matter.
Playing for Juventus five years ago, Zidane butted Jochen Kientz of Hamburger SV in a Champions League match, also earning himself a red card.
Eight years ago, Zidane was red-carded for stomping on an opponent while playing Saudi Arabia. At this World Cup he collected two yellow cards and was suspended for France's third group match against Togo.

FIFA said before the beginning of the world cup that they will not tolerate racial slurs. If the Italian guy insulted Zidane to which he admitted, Italians should be stripped of the title and not Zidane. In any case, FIFA should investigate the matter dispassionately and not be biased if they want any credibility on their part. The other question is: why did the fourth referee not see the pulling of the shirt prior to the incident and only the head-butt by Zidane?

From what I heard is that the words that got exchanged had strong implications of comparing zidane and that of a terrorists - dirty arab - however he said it could have said a lot.
If the italian did he deserved a ******* RED card like the little ***** it appears he is. Racism is following the italian team like it's their business. I honestly believe zidane may have some regrets now, but I would hope most of you would react like a man if the pussy in front of you is trying to be lesser than you, he merely pulled a lao tzu slap on the lessers

Zidane was provoked. I would give Red card to both players. Materazzi words were harder than the knife in Zidane heart.
The Italian player was dirty to trick the feeling of the great player ever.
Italy won the game by Materazzi cheap ugly trick.

The Italian talked about Zidane's mom. If I was Zidane, I would've kicked him in the crotch!

A very shamefull blow that may have cost France the title. He will go out as being know as the great player who gave a cheap shot in the end! They were talking so one has to believe that the Italian player got under his skin! Red card out! How stupid
