Well, I just feel we should'nt pass judgement on Zidane without knowing the facts of what went on b/n him and the Italian guy...I think we should keep in mind that football is the kind of game that emotions run high and they can easily get out of hand, and a player should'nt be judged too harshly on a stray incident like that.

Just wondering if you feel the same way.

You know, I totally agree with you.

Those Italian players can be very, very dirty. I bet he said someting really messed up and he had just had it. He was really tired and he had just had it. At least it was a cool head butt!

I just wish he could have been at the closing ceremony. He's still the coolest player on that team.

But, it should be said that they didn't lose because of that move.

People get redcarded all the time; Zidane's just came at the worst time. The incident could have been describes simply as "sorely disappointing". I understand that he was captain, not to mention one of the greatest and charismatic players in the world, but he's human too. How the commentators were judging seemed like salt in the wounds and even a bit degrading.
Anyways, for every blessing there seems to be a bit of a curse, the aggressiveness that gave him the greatness and field presence contributed to the ugly way the little verbal argument turned out.

Honestly, should i have been the commentator, i would be dying to know what that italian player said (God knows it probably wasnt too nice) to tick off the French man. Should i have been Zidane, i would have headbutted him too.
The commentators don't know everything that goes on in the field, especially their heads. This is a big mental game too. Maybe they should tone down on the 39 lashes.

Also i disagree abit on him being directly responsible for their defeat. A team should be able to play regardless of the circumstances. Although the thought that the best in the team ( Henry, Vieras and maybe even Ribery) Sagnol did well taking over for Zidane. Besides, Barthez wasn't doing very well. His extensions were a bit short thus failing to protect the side that he's already dived to. Today just wasn't their day.

Zidane should not have reacted like this as he is a professional, a sportsman and an icon of French civilization/ culture and a symbol of the game along with Pele, Maradona and Beckham.
Zidane lost his cool in the last 10 minutes, and the country lost.
He was thus directly responsible for French loosing the world cup in penalties due to his absence.
He will always be remembered for French defeat and all that is wrong with the game of football.

If Mothrfckerazzi called Zidane a terrorist, completely understand the reaction; 10 minutes left and running on empty, the game clearly headed for PK’s, he saw the need to stand up to that sort of skulduggery. Six months from now, the only thing we’ll remember of this game is Zidane teaching this scumbag a lesson with the Dive Team’s win on PK’s a statistic.

There's a lot of similarites between Zidane and Rooney. Both were given an immediate red card by the same ref.

No! What are you blind?!? So to you it's perfectly fine that an idiot of a man just turns around and headbutts a guy in the chest?! Not to mention he premediated it! It was not a stray incident! He did it on purpose! He is a moron to do that on his last world cup game and even worse to let his emotions get in the way like that. I think people are not judging him harshly enough.

It was a despicable act from a player but what makes it worse was that it was a CAPTAIN that did it.Any other player might have been excused but a captain should not lose his head and lead by example.I do not care what the Italian player said the head butt was an act of a coward.

i was shocked when i saw the incident.

a soccer legend like zidane shouldve known that he is a very crucial part to the team's success. well i think he knew that. but he shouldnt hav acted that way bcoz obviously he contributed to the team's loss. it`s a shame he didnt play for the penalty shoot outs. and ending his brilliant career with a red card is absolutely shameful.

and yes this is a rooney incident all over again.

What, are you kidding? Regardless of what you say to another player; you don't hit another player. EVER. That was an absolutely horrible act on the part of Zidane that was completely unneccessary. I think the criticism is both fair and justified.

Being French, I can tell you that everybody is just thanking the Team and Zidane right now!
I agree with you that we don't know what happened, but it was an irresponsible act anyway!
