I understand what you are saying. I don't have a fear of the phone, but I will put off calling someone, and sometimes just don't answer. I don't like the phone. It's an interruption to our activities, and it's usually someone selling something. I am comfortable speaking in front of groups, like you. A person will say Call me, and I feel uneasy. If they say E-mail me, I'm fine. I've no idea where such a fear comes from, and I really don't mind that I have it. If I don't call someone and they get angry, that's OK. I never say I will call them, but if I have to, I will. I suppose we all have our quirks. If it upsets your life and you can't function normally, it's time to get help. If you can live with it, it's not a really big deal. It makes other people angry more than it affects me.

The best way to overcome any fear is to face it.
I'm not sure how old you are, but if your over 18, you can join Toastmasters. They will help you get use to public speaking.
Also you could work on your self esteem by some good self help books. Again, the best way is to face your fear and start doing it.

here's an answer from someone who used to have your problem. Go out and borrow or buy or steal your self the cutest little puppy you can find. Go to public places with your puppy and you will have more friendly people coming up to you and talking to you, which in turn will make it easier to talk to people and pick up chics. if puppies don't work try some babies.
The best public places to start off with are places where tourist hang out or stroll. Tourists are already in a good mood to begin with and are going to be friendly anyway.
if these don't work then buy a parrot, they'll talk to anyone.

Hmmm good question.
Just pretend that you're talking to yourself when conversing and think s l o w l y . Make sure not to leave out details and bring up things that you know a lot about so you can contribute more.
Also - learn big words.... they will make you feel smarter.

Deliver pizza. I am not joking! I used to be really shy, and now after doing it for almost ten years I am able to talk to even the most intimidating people. Plus, I make a little money as well.

Go to the liberary and get some books on psychology and read them. Psychology is just learning about who you are and why you do the things you do. Maybe when you find out why you do what you do then you can change the reason for doing it. Or face the reality of it. Good Luck

Join Toastmasters. It is a public speaking organization. Take a public speaking continual education class. Study the English language. Start speaking to one person, and work your way up.

Well it takes awhile but the only way is to actually talk to people. Always look people in the eye when you talk to them.
