I mean we did a 7 hour+ space walk the other day and it just seems so darn technical. Yet you see in Star Trek films (yes I know its the movies) how easily they get around in space. If we are to eventually send people up into space permantly them we need to get closer to Star Trek ability quickly. How else will we be able to build space stations of great size in space. A space station capable of housing 100 to 1000 people. You can't send every single piece up into space like the ISS fully assembled.

We are maybe 500-1000 years from anything remotely like that. Read "Hyperspace" by Michio Kaku (I think thats the spelling), he talks to a lot of leading scientific minds and then makes estimates about when and if certain things will occur in the future.

Look at where we were 100 years ago and what we've accomplished since. It's possible to build space stations (been done in fact), but very expensive.

more than likely its going to take centuries and possibly milleniums before we're anywhere near star trek capabilities, and in all likelihood, we'll destroy ourselves before we can get that far.

we already have the technology the government just doesnt want us to know about it.
