Depends on what you mean by often. I travel 48 to 52 weeks a year, so dependable luggage is a must. I agree with the poster who said TUMI. Their stuff is rock solid, and they repair what they sell. However their price point is quite a bit more that other manufacturers.

For me, I have had great luck with Travel Pro. They run about 60% of the price of TUMI, and have a program where you can get the parts of the bag that break most often (handle, wheels, zippers, etc) for about $15 or $20.

Based on the differences in cost, I can get the Travel Pro bag repaired about 15 times before it reaches the price point of a comparable Tumi bag.

samsonite hard shell. The soft luggage used to be great but the post 9/11 rules allow the TSA to open your luggage , this puts a strain on zipppers.. Make sure it has wheels.

I agree with Ted F - I have never liked Samsonite - just looking at it is a Turn Off.

the light a durtable ones they have restrictions on weight now so the lighter the better depends on how much stuff you plan to lug along with you tho
