The way the story line goes is like this.
Episode 1 the phantom menace
Episode 2 Attack of the Clones
Episode 3 Revenge of the sith
Episode 4 A new hope
Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back
Episode 6 Return of the Jedi
Now the last ones 4-6 are really the original ones. They were made back in the 70's before the first 3 were made. I know It's really confusing. This is the way I would watch them. I would just watch 3-6. I agree with some of the Hardcore Star Wars fans when they say that the Newer movies were never suppose to be made and that they sucked. All with the Exception of Revenge of the sith. That was a kick *** movie. And it's good to watch it first because then you will know who the hell Darth Vader is and why he is Luke's father. Episodes 1 and 2 are just a big waste of time. So go to blockbuster and get.
Episode 3 Revenge of the sith
Episode 4 A new hope
Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back
Episode 6 Return of the Jedi
And Watch them in that order. Great Movies.

Imagine being 8 years old and seeing a science-fiction film for the very first time in your life. That film is Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, an opus extraveganza full of ground-breaking special effects and a story taken straight from Greek mythology.
That is the mentality you should have when watching the Star Wars films in the order they were released.
I cannot comment on watching them in chronological order because I had the pleasure of watching them in the order they were released. Maybe Episode I: The Phantom Menace would be more appealing if I had watched it this way.
I've introduced my nephews to Star Wars in this order: Episodes IV, V, VI, I, II, III. Although I was there with them commenting on the more spectacular events each movie slightly references. George Lucas invented THX sound, because of him many cinemas installed the speaker systems we still use today!
He filmed the Death Star attack in Episode IV in a carpark with minitures!!! No CGI. Yoda was a puppet controlled by the same man responsible for the Muppets- Frank Oz!
Watch all six movies and then go back and watch all the special features- you'll be amazed at the number of stories each film carries.
Enjoy!

You should definitely start with Episode IV, A New Hope. Watch them in the order they were made, not the story's chronological order. It's the only way you can fully appreciate the concept's evolution and the improvement in the special effects.
IV, V, VI, I II, III

If you really want to watch them the way they should be watched, you should watch
1. Star Wars (episode 4)
2. Empire Strikes Back (episode 5)
3. Return of the Jedi (episode 6)
If you can, see the theatrical releases, not the ones that were redone and re-released in the 90's.
Then if you must, see episode 1, 2, and 3.

this is the order that George Lucas (director) wanted us to watch.
Star Wars IV: A new Hope
Star Wars V: Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi
Star Wars I: Phantom of the Menace (something by that name)
Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones
Star Wars III: Revenge of the SIth
I recommend you to watch it in that order because if you go 1 -6 you are going to think its stupid story. But in the order that the director wanted it to be its more interesting!
Have fun!

It's up to yourself. But I would recommend that you watch either first I-II-III or IV-V-VI (1-2-3 or 4-5-6). Then it's easier to understand the story well. Enjoy the movies!
May the Force be with you!
