he should have known better than to do what he did, no matter what the provocation. That's the name of the game! keep your head (no pun intended) no matter what.

im still on Zidane's side...i believe he is the best player and had he stayed on France would have won...but i reckon he must have been provoked by the italian player to such an extent that he lost his nerve and let it all out.....and lets not forget the critical state that the game..and also Zidane was in..im not trying to justify his action but i think theres more to the story than meets the eye otherwise y would the worlds no. 1 player do something like that especially in his last ever world cup final?

I believe there must be a reason for it. He is a professional player. He wouldn't do this without any reasons. I guess the Italian guy must say something insulting him. I support Zidan!

you got to be kidding me, he should of got a red. That hit is uncalled for. They were talking trash back and forth throughout the whole match and Zidane didn't think. HE DESERVED A RED CARD!!! and he would be suspended if he wasn't going to retire.

I won't be. What Zidane did was flagrant and deserved the red card. What a way to tarnish what was a distinguished international career in soccer.

Even if there was a reason, he is a professional. Zidane flipped and he deserved the red card.

He got the red purely for his reaction and much as I was sorry to see him go. it was the right decision. It's unfortunate that the Italian had to say whatever he did to cause Zinidane to butt him in the first place though.

He got what he deserved, unfortunately. I'm sure Matterazzi said something to him that was awful, but he shouldn't have reacted that way. He must know that there are a million cameras on him! What did he expect?

well even if the other player was insulting his momma (lol) there are a bagillion different ways he couldve handled that situation. also hes a captain. THATS CRAP. captains shouldnt act that way at all. so i think he did deserve a red card.
