Try the Karlstein castle. It's amazing.I have been there this spring, and it really made me feel like being back in the time, in the middle age. But, of course, visiting Karlstein had it's own bad sides. If you speak english fluently, this will be VERY irritating, not boring, to you, because the guides who lead you across the castle speak english VERY badly. You'll be able to understand them, but barely. They have some strange accent or something, whish obviously comes from a large barrier between Chezh and English (languages). This is very stupid, because this is one of the most impressive castles in Chezh Republic. There are also many places to visit across te whole Chezh Republic, but I don't know whether it is near Karlovy Vary or not.But one of the things you shouldn't miss visiting is Prague, of course and it's beauties. Prague is of grandeur beauty, and it is full of shops, at least the main street is! Enjoy it, while you're there!

Check out Marianske Lazne and Frantiskovy Lazne in that region. Both are bath towns, but have a slower feel and much less touristy than Karlovy Vary.

Also, Marianske Lazne has the palace of Clemens von Metternich in a rural area called Knzvart. That area is really pretty and the palace is an interesting tour. Web info of the palace is at: http://www.hrady-zamky.cz/zamek-kynzvart/default_en.asp

Have fun!
