I like to trade cars every year or two and my wife hates it. Every time it is a battle. I make a crap load of money and she makes a decent salary as well. We live on less than a third of our income so I personally don't see the problem.

If you have that much disposable income then you need to be smarter as a man about such matters. She's probably not objecting to you getting a car, she's objecting to YOU getting a car. It’s called share the wealth. Try buying her a diamond anniversary ring and I bet your car problems will go away.

Do you know why your wife hates this? Is there a reason that you're disregarding her opinion? Maybe that's what she hates. I don't see the problem trading in a car if the money is there. But that is a HUGE purchase, and both parties involved need to be in agreement. Maybe you and your wife should talk and get the bottom of why she has a problem with this and why you feel the need to trade in your cars every 1 to 2 years.

Leasing might be a better option for you. That way you don't waste so much money on it. It is a waste of money and just because you have some money to waste doesn't mean you should. Maybe she would prefer to not work so much if you're just going to blow the money on stuff you don't need. On the other hand it is nice to have a new car all the time that is always under warranty. Some women would like that. Find out what exactly she hates about it so much.

Yeah wanting a new car every year is a waste. You lose so much money on depreciation. Nothing wrong with wanting a new ride but you shouldn't just waste money.

Why not trade for a used car (2 year old or less). If you were rich it wouldn't matter but it sounds like your on some sort of budget. Your wife will appreciate your trying to be fiscally responsible.

if shes the one handling the finance, then there must be a reason why she hates it, that you don't know. might want to try and find out what that reason is. she might be thinking that you guys rather save that money for rainy days or just doesn't like to throw away money on stupid things, like cars. talk to her and find out what shes thinking about. just because you make that much money, doesn't mean you can afford some things. she might have grew up in a different family background like, her family might have been poor and her parents tried to raise the family on little money. I know when you grow up that way, you don't throw away money like that on cars. or try this. she might feel that you guys are not equal on the spending. she might be thinking you're spending way too much than her. if thats the case and you guys can afford it, get her what she always wanted. might be a bigger house or get her a new car just for her, I'm sure you wouldn't mind if you really do make a crap load of money.

Read the book, 'The Millionaire Next Door', or any other book written about the lifestyles of millionaires. It will tell you that 95% of all Millionaires do not drive new cars. They drive 2003 or so, but none of them drive new. A new car loses 60% of its' value in 2 years. Ex. A 2007 Ford Explorer starts at $26,000.00 and goes up. I just bought a 2002Ford Explorer with only 30K miles on it for $13,900.00 It was HALF the price of a new with only a few miles on it. It looks brand spanking new. Your wife is right. Poorer people buy new cars. Millionaires do not. The rich do not get rich staying in debt and making car payments. Debt free people get richer. Which one are you?

I do not see a problem with this as long as you are only leasing the car. A lease is designed for someone with your usage habits.

However, you are not married to me, so you should talk this over with your wife and see what her concerns are in more detail. She may have valid concerns that the two of you need to reconcile before a car becomes a source of stress on your marriage.

i see what you mean by you not seeing a problem. just reevaluate your reasons for wanting anew car every once in a while. but also take into account her feelings too. ask her why she doesn't want it? if you take her feelings into consideration and validate them, there should not be so many fights about it. just remember, that you two are one now that you got married and major decisions like buying/getting new cars should be made together. it doesn't really matter who makes more money, because she needs to feel like she is responsible for the finances as well. just talk it over with her, and find out her worries.

You should get a birthday card from the UAW's every year.

Cars are made to last longer then that, but if your getting something that achieves more than 20 mpg I think it's a good idea.
We need to ween ourselves off the teet of foreign oil.
Anything less and your just showing off.

Firstly if your wife has a car then feel free to buy whatever car you want,if not then don't argue but search together to find your desired car.
Its not unreasonable at all.
If you have enough money then you may as well.
Contact me and tell what car you have and what you want to get.
