Czech Language
Czech, a consonant-rich Slavic language, is said to be the most difficult European language to learn. Some sounds can be very difficult for English speakers to pronounce. Fortunately, in these days of global commerce and tourism, many Czech's speak English, particularly in Prague's city centre. Among the older generation, Russian & German are also quite common.

Czech People
According to the most recent census, the Czech Republic has a population of 10.3 million, or 131 per sq km. Like the Slovaks and Russians, Czech's belong to the Slavic group of peoples. Slavs can further be divided into East, West & South Slavs. Poles, Czechs, Slovaks & Luatians, belong to the West Slav group.

Romanies, or Gypsies, are the most conspicuous minority in Prague. They are thought to descend from Indian migrants in the 15th century. In addition, the Prague tourism boom attracts migrant workers from Central & Eastern European countries, and other old Soviet block countries such as Ukraine.
