For fun? Well, certainly that's why most of it is done, but it is allowed for wildlife management purposes to control population numbers in accordance with the food supply so animals aren't starving in the wild, and because many of the natural predators have died down or been seperated from game food sources.

I only have one reason, herds need to be thinned out. It is far worse to starve to death than to be shot. I'm not saying I could do it myself, I couldn't. Also, these so called hunting ranches where the animals are tame and are just there to be shot, are way wrong. None of the self respecting hunters that I know will hunt at one of those crappy places. Unfortunately herds need to be thinned, it's sad fact of life.

WOW! I wish I could give you even one reason that hunting should be allowed for fun. The act of hunting in itself suggests one party has benefit over the other. One is strong, one is weak. One could possibly kill - and the other, possible die. I see nothing 'fun' in the hunt.
