I lost about 15-20 man hours last week answering questions at work (I didn't mark the time as work - I just answered questions instead of working) and it depresses me that I'm not doing my assigned work.
I answer one, and I can't stop! I like the feeling of helping someone with their problems - it makes me feel like I make a difference. I even like answering the stupid political flamers' questions. Before I know it, I've wasted a couple hours at work and I have to stay late to try to make it up!
I know that it's up to me to stop this behavior, but I was just curious if anyone else was feeling the addictiveness to answering questions...
Thanks for letting me vent a bit :-)

I've only been doing yahoo answers for about two weeks. I'm going to try to go cold turkey :-)

I know firsthand just how addictive Yahoo! Answers can be. It's really cut into my productivity. Fortunately, I have some great friends who drag me into reality every once in a while and make sure I know what I have to do. I always end up back on Y!A as soon as I'm done, but it really is important to have friends supporting you and making sure you don't drift off into Y!A fantasy world. Good luck with going cold turkey! There's nothing like a cold turkey sandwich to get you sober and ready for a little bit of real work.

I am not what I would call addicted but once in a while I will stay on here for the most of 20 minutes. I have only answered a little over 100 questions and I want to reach level 3 but I will not revolve all my time on it. It is fun and it gives me something good to do when I am bored. But I can see what you mean about getting distracted with it and not being able to do anything else.

I feel the same way! Don't feel bad. This is just something to lessen your tension at work. All you have to do is to control and focus on the time. Give yourself 15 to 25 minuites a day to answer questions. Better yet, go to Yahoo! Answers at night instead of working on your wasted hours.
Good luck! :-)

I agree, but I spend more time sifting through the questions I have no clue about than anything. I tend to only answer if I have somewhat of a decent answer for the person asking.

i like yahoo answers too. my suggestion is that you prioritize. get your crap done and use yahoo answers as a reward.
as far as answering questions, i've been more selective since i like getting chosen as having a best ansswer. it makes me feel prety good knowing mine was a decent answer. I also like choosing best answers, kinda makes you think of all of them, and which gives the most useful info.. sometimes its a hard decision.

I know it is awful. I am addicted to answering, voting, resovling, anything that gives me points. I refuse to ask to many questions because I will lose points.
