Early 20s and it was because of the Iran Contra trials. I was a republican back then and my party was knee deep in that scandal.

I was 19 or 20 (1965 or 66) and in college. Some woman on a TV news program was demanding an increase in her welfare benefits because "It is my rights" (her words).

At that moment I realized that the Democrats generally agreed with her and the Republicans didn't. Even though almost all of my family (parents, uncles, aunts and cousins) are Democrats I switched to the Republican party.

I don't agree with 43 (that's Bush 43, not the 43 on Yahoo!Answers) on everything. E.g., Gay marriage (I'm for it), border security (I agree with House Reps) and education policy (too much fed $ going out) to name three, I agree with him on most things.

I agree with the Dems on almost nothing (even if I could figure out what they stand for other than electing Dems).

So, I'm staying Republican for the time being.

9/11 2001.. I was 21..
I thought it was taking too long to go after Bin Laden, but realized there were works in progress. I was in the military and remember shouting at the TV, saying "Lets go already!!".
A couple months later Bush started talking about Iraq, I couldn't stand it, that's what got me started...

MrCool1978- I remember that election.. My teacher convinced me to support George Bush Sr. I was 9 at the time.. Damn Liberals and their school systems!!
