Sleep paralysis is very frightening...it is one of the most scariest experiences you could ever have. I know how it feels since I've had sleep paralysis for many years. I used to have them very often but they have gone away...thank God!

I think praying before going to bed is a good suggestion..science may want to call this sleep paralysis but once you do more research on this frightening event..(don't know what else to call it)...you will see it is more than just a "nightmare"....

two things that have really helped me is I don't think about it or talk about it before I go to bed....and even during the day I don't talk about it to anyone...instead I distract my mind with other things. I notice that when I do talk about sleep paralysis to other people, then my mind programs itself and I have them at night...

so I suggest you try to think of happy things...I know it can be frightening thinking about going to sleep at night but when you do go to bed...say a little prayer first, then imagine a happy moment....

God bless and sweet dreams!

Sleep Paralysis (nick names: The Old Hag) is a very strange sleeping phenomenon among doctors and medical professionals. Yes, you may find it frightening to wake up and not be able to move/breathe or scream. But attempt to relax and your muscles come back to normal. The cause is the fact that the brain switches off as you sleep and so the muscles are almost paralysed. Sometimes, when a outside interaction in the enviroment awakes you in deep sleep (REM STAGE 5) you may be awake but unable to move/breathe as you were in a paralysis and the body still thinks you are asleep and so keeps this state until it works out, so to speak, you are awake.

Everyone has sleep, paralysis. You are one of the rare individuals who wake up and realize it. The cause is spiritual. Your soul puts your body asleep in paralysis while it returns home for a break. Normally, the soul returns before you wake up, this you are not aware of anything other than misc dreams.
I would be interested in hearing more from you. IE: after you awaken and find yourself paralyzed, doe you feel a sharp jerk before you can move. What happens between the time you wake up ad the time you can move. I believe I know but would like to hear it from you.

I am not sure what causes it but I know it is one of the scariest experiences I have ever had. I think it comes from waking up consciously before you body does. I thought I was hearing spooks and everything and I could have sworn something sat on my bed! It was freaky but I do know that I was under a lot of stress in those days and that could have contributed. It helped to try to get rid of some of my stress and try not to be so anxious when I went to bed. Good luck.

hi there. yes i have SP. and have for 8 years. and get it weekly many times in a night. and no matter how many times i have it its still frightening. there is not much know about it. there are things on the internet what will tell u what is know about it. the best advise i can give u is that u r not alone. when u have SP try and concentrate on moving 1 part of u body say ur fingers or ur toes. it might help gettin out of sp better n try not to panic. its hard i no..

this site is very good. and it proves u r not alone, read other peoples experiences in the message board.. etc. http://www.spis.org.uk/

hope it helps abit.

sweet dreams. and try not to let it ruin your nights sleep.

I used to get this often over a period of a few months. My mind would be awake, but my body would be completely imobolized. I would struggle and struggle to try and move and scream. Sometimes I felt as though a presence was right beside me, like a dark shadow. It was very frightening at the time, but has not occurred again in years.

Yes, it is terrifying! I don't think anyone really knows what causes it, but I have good news for you -- for me, what helped stop it was just the awareness of what it was. The first few times it happened to me, I was petrified because I didn't understand what was happening. But now it doesn't happen because I understand that it's temporary and I just need to relax and fall back asleep and I will wake up fine. I'm sure the same thing will happen to you :)

I dont want to freak you out but its more a spiritual condition rather than a medical one. Most people will feel a prsesnce of evil or heaviness or even a dark shadow around them. It happens when evil spirits lurk around where you are.
I will suggest you try praying to God about it and asking for His presence to guard and protect you.

I think the mind isnt completely woken up so when your nerves are saying to move but they cant coz the mind isnt working right. you just have to wait until it goes away.
