I think so, yes. Nothing ruins a good movie like someone's screaming kid. That's what babysitters are for.

YES - AB-SO-F_ _ KING_LUTELY

It drives me nuts that people can be so damned inconsiderate and stupid! Not only should they not bring babies and very young children to the theatre, they should not be allowed in restaurants... and there should be completely separate sections for people with screaming, crying, annoying babies on airplanes, trains, and ships... of course my preference would be that they were banned from certain flights all-together.

I did a flight some years ago and the woman behind me is flying with a 2 month old baby at 11:30PM.. yes.. almost midnight. WHY!!!!! STUPID - INCONSIDERATE - IGNORANT - SELFISH are but 4 words that come to mind.

If I were a the richest man in the world, I'd buy or start my own country and children would be banned from being in public after 6pm.. there would be no-children allowed buses, flights, trains, restaurants, theatres, malls.. etc, etc. Oh, and government funded day care would be stopped.. why should I pay for other peoples children to be put in day care? If you have children, accept responsibility for them and pay your own fees!!!

There. I said. I'm glad.

A lot of answerers are making it seem as though the parents are purposefully trying to impose their misbehaving children on the rest of the audience. If the child isn't crying or misbehaving before the beginning of the movie, who's going to suspect that their going to cry/act up later on? Nobody can predict the actions of their children, because we're Human.. we aren't perfect.

If there was a rule that prohibited young children from going to theatres, a great deal of family time or time spent between child and guardian. Parents, grandparents and other family relatives take their children to the movie theatres because it's a fun way to enjoy a film, and spend time with your children. While it may be a disturbance to others in the audience, these people aren't trying to porposely disturb the audience.

Is it at all fair to cut children completely from the theatres just because children misbehave? Most anyone who can complain about a childs whining should know and fully comprehend that children have high attention spans, bore qiuckly, fidget, and require a moderate amount of maintenance. I'm not sure how most of us would feel if we couldn't go to the movies and enjoy a flick with out child because the theatres prohibited children due to their frequent theatrical disturbances.

I wouldn't be at all happy if I was rejected purchasing a ticket because my child was under a certain age, or was misbehaving in the line to buy my ticket.

Of course we all care about our viewing pleasure and comfort, but in movie theatres there is almost always at least 1 childrens movies available for viewing, because children like movies with their favorite characters and heros in them. Children like the movie theatres too and who are we, just because we're older, to take that away from them?

C'mon people, stop being so conceited and selfish and grit your teeth and bear it.

there are theaters for moms in some states where they can bring their babies in and enjoy a movie without fear of intolerant people, like most of the respondants here, reprimanding them or tattling on them, it is hard for moms to get out and enjoy time without their little ones. These are the same people that if they leave their "kid" as you call them home without supervision, you are all the first ones to go, "Oh, that parent should not be allowed to have kids, they are so neglectful!" Then, there are people like rosemary and tenacious who don;t think that people "deserve" to go to the movieif they can't afford a sitter. Well, maybe, they can only afford a little luxury once in a while and in their situation, which doesn't fir into your narow-minded scheme for people, they do what they can do. If YOU don't want to be in a theater with the general public, wait til it comes out on DVD!

I don't know about making it a rule, but I do believe that if a child starts to act up and make it hard for other patrons to enjoy the movie the parent should remove them from the theater until the crying or whatever the problem is stops. I have 3 children and when they were younger I never hesitated to take them out (no matter where we were) if they started acting up.

I totally think there should be a rule, just like the whole cell phone announcement before the show, there should be a rule that you shouldn't be able to have a young baby in a movie theater. First of all it's too loud for their little ears, and second of all...come on now, like i have to explain? :)

Some babies don't actually scream till they are inside the theater, so it's hard to discriminate in that case. As far as the illiteracy goes, grow up, and get over it. Yeah, there's a spell-check button, but who the eff cares? If you understand the question, that's all that matters. Good lord people!

In CA I think there is. At the Brigade in Culver City they would gladly escort you out if your kid makes to much noise (not just crying I am talking laughing off key or standing on the seats) All you have to do is complain. Sometimes the theater will give you comp tickets if you are truly annoyed.

Yes I agree even though I have 3 kids they know how to be quiet during a movie as for others I feel like slapping them sometimes and telling their kids to shut the F-UP

There should be a rule against babies period because they don't belong in a theater and too many parents are too cheap and irresponsible to take it upon themselves to get a sitter. If you can't afford a sitter you can't afford to go out to a movie.

Yes, I think there should be a rule.

If you're not old enough to watch the movie, or the rating doens't cover BABIES, they shouldn't be allowed in.

I paid for my seat. That screaming child didn't pay for one.
