At our old house the front porch (where the plant sits) faced west and our new apartment faces the south. Does this make a difference?

as a kid my dad grew every vegetable we ate. it was awesome.. i hated tomatoes tho..

our tomato plants had sun from sun-up till about 4 pm and were well watered... we never had a problem with them.

what is happening, just like the guy above me stated, is that by facing south its getting more exposure than its used to...if its been alive for a while this could be why its haveing a hard time adjusting...

my advice is to water it more often, if its in a potter with a hole in the bottom... fill it up till it comes out the bottom this will ensure soak-ness. also, if you have been watering the leaves. stop doing this... the plant thinks its raining and will open the pores on the leaves and with this extra exposure, it will dry the leaves out..i know this b/c im growing seedling trees and ive lost a couple to that exact mistake.
hope this helps

HOME SICK. Just kidding. I had the same problem last year when i moved. several of my larger potted plants including my tomatoes suddenly took a nose dive. I turned to my boyfriend a plant pathologist with the univ extension, for an answer. I didn't want the pots to drip & make a mess during the move so i didn't water on the morning of our move. He said that the dryer (not dry) condition of the soil and the vibration & bouncing when being moved via truck, allowed air spaces to form in the soil. These spaces allowed the soils dry out more quickly & permitted the roots to move & bruse. So it was a combo of things that all came together at the same time that caused the demise of my tomatoes. The other plants recovered. It was still early enought in the season, so i dumped the tomatoes & planted new ones. The new ones were even better. Why not cut your loss & get some new ones started now? Sorry for your loss. I know how you feel.

Well, if your new patio faces south, the tomato plant is probably getting a lot more sunlight. For tomatos, this isn't usually a big deal, but apparently yours is having trouble.

I would suggest watering it a lot more, and possibly moving it to some place were a little more shade gets on it during the day.
