Back when I drank, and before Utah had a law to sell liquor by the drink, we had to go to the liquor store (run by the State) and buy a bottle to take to a bar where we'd buy a mixer (glass of soda pop, juice, or other type of drink mix) and then mix our own.
I had some friends who had married or had moved in with their girl-friends, so sometimes, I'd get together with them to play cards.
In this way, I sometimes found myself the third wheel with a fifth!

Oh I'm the third wheel all the time. My cousin is always inviting me to go out with her and her husband. It's very sweet because he very often will give me a "pity dance", should there be a band!

I went to the show one time with my husband and his friend. I did indeed end up being the third wheel. My husband spoke to his friend more than me, offered his friend things like gum but didn't offer it to me. He doesn't usually do this and he won't anymore after that night. I wouldn't have minded so much but we work different shifts and don't see each other as much as usual.

Yes, to a friend who later became my sister in law. I was uncomfortable then and later when she and I dated were dating brothers she denied ever dating that guy. She knew that I knew and told some horrible lies to the family about me. So now if I tell everyone she is lying they don't believe me they believe her. It stinks being the odd person out!

Yup. Its pretty decent, I mean, if you're just getting to know the other person. You kind of serve as a cushion in case they run out of things to say or stuff to do. I get a lot of free meals that way.
