sound recorder with a microphone is good. however it typically only allows up to 60 seconds of continuose record time before you need to press record again.
try getting www.skype.com, then get to www.pamela-systems.com download the free BASIC version of the software.
I know these tools are designed to be used for basic communication, however you should be able to use the record function to record an out going message. this is typicallly stored as a .wav file just sing or record your voice as required and save the file to your hard drive.
alternatively you can get a digital external dictaphone or use an mp3 player that records voice. then use windows media player or the software if any supplied with your external device.
failing that as one other ansswerer already said try downloads. failing that try www.majorgeek.com
as with all software you download make sure you have the latest updates for your security software (anti-virus definitions, anti-spyware and wormblocking) failing to use the latest updates as you know renders even the best anti-malware software useless.

If you are using windows XP, go to Start/ All Programs/ Accessories/ Entertainment/ Sound Recorder. If you have a microphone installed, you should be able to record your own voice. There's no need to thank me.

Plug a microphone into your soundboard, open Windows Media, set to record, choose your format, and record away to your hard drive. Suggest MP3 at a low fidelity setting if for only voice...64 bps or lower. Good luck

If you want to actually record it onto your harddrive, you can use the default windows sound recorder. Go to the start menue, go to programs, accessories, entertainment. The program should be there.

I think you can do it in 'accessories'. depends if you have XP or not, but you can use help/troubleshooter and it will take you through it all.......oh, you will, of course, need a mic!!
