Anyone that has played sports must know how heated a game can get. I can't imagine playing at that level. I watched the game and saw the replay of the head butt and they also played what led up to it. My first thought was that they had gotten into some kind of verbal altercation caused by the Italian player, Materazzi, hanging onto Zidane and guarding him a little too closely. Materazzi admits to this, though he will not elaborate on what he said, now there is no verbal attack that can justify what Zidane did, it was dangerous and stupid, and he deserved a red card, not only for the flagrancy of his act, but also for his protection (the Italian team most certainly would have taken him out), but let's be a little realistic here, it wasn't a random unprovoked act.
