Hey eveyrone. I found a guy that I really like and we met up for the first time last night. He's so nice. Really sweet etc. When he got home last night, we talked on AIM and he told me that im really sweet, all that other stuff that made me feel good about myself. then all the sudden, apparently he was talking to someone else that had said not to ever talk or see me again because of the ages. (Im 15, he's 19). I know its totally illegal to do anything sexually but the law in CA is that technicially, its ok to date someone who is of age and someone who isnt? Is that true? well anyways, its also depressing because I just thought I had finally met..someone..and I guess I was more mad at myself for getting all caught up and losing track of reality that the ages would be a problem. He jsut wants to be friends now,, which is definitely ok but im still a little...blah...So I guess my question is about the dating age thing laws in CA and how do I overcome this depressed feeling I have?
Thanks

The law can ONLY restrict sexual behavior. No one can keep you from "dating" anyone (it would be awfully hard to prove, no?). That having been said, please be careful, and if you're going to get involved, be REALLY sure that he is only interested in dating, and he is ok with waiting for the law.

As for your feeling, whatever happens, keep living. Unless you're prone to depressive episodes already (in which case, please talk to your doctor), things will get better.

lol well keep withem for 3 more years then date i guess. and when i was a guy i had set a limit to date girls that were 2 years older and 2 years younger, now ill date guys9 years up but no one younger, in all aspects, as long as you are in love with him the state nor government has any control over your sex life PERIOD. now on the other hand standing in the 19 year olds shoes i would kinda be scared to date you since if you got mad or angry you could simple call the police on me and have me arrested and id become a child molester, so best advice wait 3 years or find someone under 18

Dating isn't a problem, sex is. My understanding of California's code is that if he's under 21, but more than exactly 3 years older than you, he can go to jail for up to 1 year.

Anyway, you're better off with someone closer to your own age. You're not so likely to get caught up in situations which you are not prepared to handle.

The website below gives some informaton.

That sucks. I hate that law. I think we should at least make it legal for 15 year olds to have sex with 19 year olds. I don't know what to tell you, though, except you'll find someone else. If he was persuaded so easily, maybe he wasn't as into you as you thought. You'll meet someone who will care about you enough not to be persuaded by someone else against being with you.

If it doesn't bother him, it shouldn't bother you.

Age is really just a number, I realize that there are laws guarding sex to minors, which in this state is 18 or younger. But that shouldn't stop you two if you really are in love.
