I know they used to be built with pentagon squares but now they have weird figure eight shapes. What benefit does that have?

The seams don't stick out with the new patches, and this makes it a more rounded ball. With the pentagon patches, there needed to be more patches and more seams to complete the ball. The new design has less patches, less seams, and causes it to fly through the air faster. They actually consider this to be a "rounder" ball.

They change just the motives, the designs and painting within the ball it self, though the Soccer ball, steal is round, shape, and in the perfect form of a round shaped perfect SPHERE,

IMHO, they were trying to jazz up a booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooring sport.
