Yes, I remember hearing in my ob/gyn lectures that it is an option, like the other answerer mentioned, especially good for women who can't take HRT. However, sorry, I don't remember the specifics of it and don't really have time to look it up right now.

However, if someone you know is on SSRI's for menopause, yes, they are probably telling the truth. Or if your dr suggested it to you, no, they are not crazy. And if someone else suggested it to you, go talk about it with your dr.

Hope that helps confirm that the other guy who answered is on target, though I think maybe they are being used more liberally for that reason than he may have led you to think.

SSRI help in a lot of psychiatric disorders, depression, some forms of anxiety and others. Your question is not something easy to answer and you shouldnt follow any advice from anyone here (that includes me) in what to take for menopausal symptoms. It MIGTH help in hot flushes and may be useful if you cant take hormonal replacemen therapy, still right now is an off label indication. Now if you are depressed from being perimenopausal, then, yes SSRI will help in that depression. Really, for this question you need to follow your gynecologist advice.

Yes, SSRIs can help with this.Prozac and other similar drugs do much more than alleviate depression.

But there are a lot of other things you can do to help with menopausal symptoms. - exercise, give yourself treats, try herbal remedies (browse the vitamins in Boots and similar pharmacies) Relax as much a s you can.

This too will pass - it gets better. Don't worry!!
