Legalized defiantly not, however decriminalized yes. I think you should be able to buy in under controlled conditions, at a certain age and in a restricted environment where those who are underage will not have access.
It should be illegal to operate a vehicle or heavy machinery under the influence.
And the government should tax it like crazy.
As a side note, marijana use is illegal in canada however it is a fine if you are only in possession of a small quantity.

I do not smoke pot, nor do I have any desire to smoke pot and never have. Mom, home, apple pie here without even the typical experimentation.
However, while marijuana has NOT been shown to not cause cancer, but only have a lesser risk than cigarettes and while it has NOT been conclusively shown to promote brain cell growth, it DOES clearly have some medicinal benefits, it is relatively harmless -- relative to drinking and narcotic abuse and it SHOULD be 100% legal.
Further, it should be rolled, taxed, regulated like alcohol and the money used for medical R&D.
You may appreciate this link. If so, gimme the points for searching it out for you.

It should be legalized. You would have to be over 21. It would be taxed.
The same rules would remain in place for safety that we already have: If you are pulled over and found to be under the influence of a controlled substance, you already get arrested.
A couple of people who answered this thread think that suddenly, if marijuana were to be legalized, doctors and police officers all over the place would be getting high on the job. ???? why? I don't think anymore than ones that are drinking or taking pills now.
First, doctors should freely be able to prescribe it for extreme pain and nausea.
Then a plan for legalization/decriminalization for the general population can be formed. Who can sell it? Where can it be used? Likley only licensed people and establishments will be able to sell it. It will be legal to smoke it at home or places sort of like 'cigar bars' since there are almost no restaurants or bars left that you can smoke cigarettes in.
And, no, it won;t lead to the legalization of say, LSD or heroin. The dangers of those drugs are already too well documented.

It doesn't matter!! Think about it, the government will never control it and as a drug they will never legalizing it. They know however that it would bring in tax dollars through federal control sales. The only problem is that this would open the door to legalizing other perhaps more powerful drugs. They had to draw the line somewhere. The thing is it's so easy to get it if you want it. What's the big deal?

Hell yeah it should be legalized, I cant believe my tax dollars are going to capture the "evil" people that bring weed to the market....
a lot of idiots say if we legalize pot, than we are on a slippery slope and then crack (or whatever ) is next, but i say, F U, aint a damn thing wrong about smoking some herb.....if you dont like it, you dont have to smoke it, or have it in your house, mo fos get addicted to anything, even paint and painkillers, so should we outlaw that too? I think not. I am not in support of those clowns that say hemp can be used to make clothes, rope, etc, shut the F$$$ up, just say weed should be legal so we can smoke it, end of discussion. WEED IS GREAT

Yes but how could you tell if someone was under the influence while driving working etc. It's not as easy to tell as it is with alcohol. Eye drops and a change of clothes usually does the trick with covering it up, and since it stays in your system for such a long time one could just say that they had done it over the weekend or something. Would you want to have surgery preformed by a loaded surgeon? Or would you want you kids kindergarten teacher doped up while she was responsible for your child? I just don't see it happening.

I don't see why it should not be legal. I tried some years ago and I didn't see any harm. I don't know if it would be as addictive as the cigarettes that I do smoke. But a question I would have for you about lung cancer is why would it not lead to lung cancer like cigarettes? Smoke is smoke, right?

Legalize
but still have the DUI law.
I think getting drunk is worse than getting High with weed.
Your laid back when your high, can become aggressive when your drunk AND you get a wicked bad hangover in the morning.
You just get the munches and... well you know the rest of the side effects to pot!
But it makes you lazy... hmmm

Too many people would grow it themselves for personal consumption. There would be no way for the gov. to put a sin tax on it. Prices would drop. Drug Lords would be put out of work, along with DEA agents. Dogs too.
Maybe it should be kept illegal. It's more fun that way.
