I was schedualed for my last depo shot May 16th of this year but we decided NOT to continue with it because we want to have another baby. As of a week ago I have been spotting. (I have spotted one other time since quiting the depo) I was only on the depo shot for 9months. We have been having unprotected sex while I am spotting also. Is it possible to get pregnant soon? I dont know when I am ovulating because my "periods" are still off...( and I am still breastfeeding my 11month old at night) the ovulation kits are anywhere from 15 - 30bucks. Any suggestions or advice?

You probably won't get pregnant for about another year. I suggest that u take the pill for about 2 months. To make your periods normal again. Otherwise it might take a long time to stop spotting. I spotted for over a month after ending mine. Then started back up a week later. You might be able to get pregnant sooner but it verys between women. I was off it for a year and half. We had unprotected sex. I never got pregnant. I took the depo shot in may because I'm going to the military. I started spotting within 2 weeks. But again every women is different. Another thing is I heard while you are breast feeding. That you probably won't get pregnant. So your really waiting on when you stop breast feeding and when your Uterus lining grows back from the shot. Talk to a doc. That might have better advice for you too.

Many women who are tring to conceive after coming off the Depo shot, have been having trouble. As the Depo shot plays with your hormones and body's chemical balance, your body needs some time to regulate itself again after stopping it. Many women with irregular periods in fact aren't ovulating at all. I'm going to include the link to a trying to conceive forum that I think you might find useful. Other women in there are having the same problems as you are. I learnt so much there that I doubt I would have learnt otherwise.

Here's some information on how to tell if and when you are ovulating

Many women who have an irregular period aren't ovulating. There are a number of ways that you can determine if you are ovulating or not.

The first and easiest way is to get a blood test from your doctor.

You can also chart your body basal temperature. On the day of ovulation, and every day after that until the beginning of your next cycle, your temperature is one degree higher than normal. It is recommended that you take your temperature before you get out of bed in the morning, and at the same time as movement affects the reading.

You can also examine the position of your cervix. When you are ovulating, your cervix is low and soft like the inside of your cheek. At all other times, your cervix is high and hard like the tip of your nose.

When you are ovulating, you may feel slight twinges around your ovaries

When you are ovulating, you may notice a difference in your cervical mucus. It should be clear and sticky, and you may be able to spread as much as 5cm string between your thumb and your forefinger. Gross, I know! It needs to be sticky to draw the sperm.

Well I'll tell you my wonderful experience with depo. I only took it for the three months, just the first initial dose. I had a bad reaction to it during the second month and bled heavily from that point until it wore off at the end of the third month. At that time I was due for another shot, instead I chose another form of birthcontrol......six weeks later I had pain and thought I possibly had a cyst, I also had light, but dark spotting, thinking it was my period, I called my doctor and told them about everything going on. I went in for a pap and other tests, everything came out negative, I was scheduled for an internal ultrasound a week later.....that's when we found out baby number three was on her way. I would reccomend calling your ob/gyn and scheduling an appointment. Good luck, also try looking at the dollar stores near you, you would be amazed at what they have for sale in the hygiene area, pregnancy tests, ovulation kits, etc. Best wishes!

It is possible; however it takes up to a year for the Depo to be totally out of your system. You might try once your cycle is more regular; the first day you start count 14 days forward then 6 back, those 6 days is when you are most fertile.

Go out and find a book called "Taking charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler.
I had already had a baby and learned new things about my body. It helped me conceive my second.
I no longer needed to buy the ovulation kits...now I know when I am ovulating without even taking my temp.

The cycles do becomes irregular after quitting the depo. It will take sometime for your body to adjust to the new condition. You can get pregnant anyways, but it might take a bit more time. So wait patiently.

You are suppose to wait until you start getting your regular period., then you will be able to keep track when you are ovulating... (go online and type ovulation calculator, once you start getting your regular period and they are regular for at least three months consecutively) - I went through the same thing and I was not able to conceive until my period was regular., it took me five months after my last shot for my period to be regular.. I mean, continue having unprotected sex and maybe you will get lucky and get pregnant before that... good luck...
