So you can tell the difference between the players and the goalie. Also it shows that if they are going towards the ball that you can't run them over, they have first dibs at the ball.

I dont usually watch either, but I think it is so that the other players can recognize the goalie and not confuse him with the others. The ref's also need to be able to recognize him so they will not call a penalty for using his hands. Just an assumption...

to tell form other players and so that way you just can't change goalies w/out ne one knowing. If they did it would b to hard to score a goal. GO ITALY!

they are one for each team not allow to kick the ball if not just under certain specific circumstances their purposes is to stop any ball to go trough the posts, mainly and freely with their hands, although they aren't allow to go fur from the goal area and carried a ball in their hands also.
