Windows updates are aimed at specific vulnerabilities in Windows software that worms, viruses, and Trojans target. It is possible to exploit some of those vulnerabilities even if you religiously update your anti virus software. They release the updates for a reason, you should run them.

Yes, the updates are there for a reason, there is no best anti-spy, virus, or firewall. These updates also update some programs not just security issues.

I do not update the MS security because I found that ZoneAlarm and a few others are better. I do updates of XP. You do need security on you PC other wise a virus, worm, trojen could come in and screw everything up. Then its new computer time.

Well you should because some programs require Service Pack 2 in order to run like Windows Media Player 11 and Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3

Just watch out: It caused problems when installing it on my computer but that's because I was like one of the first people to order it. By now, they probably fixed all those problems

my opinion on sp2 is that if you have the latest hardware like dualcore processors it makes things more compatible and less problems. for older machines, if you reformat alot sp2 will save alot of updating...i've never had 1 problem using sp2 and the only real issues i know of is if ur a heavy downloader you might need the "limit fix" for internet connections and i also heard it doesnt like some of the versions of nero if you use that....sp2=good stuff get it...viruses? spyware? erm...whatever...you definitely should run a good antispyware app in any case...i dont even use an antivirus app anymore...but thats me:)
