The Mayans had a calender that was the most accurate of all ancient people. Scientist still marvel that in caparison to today's calender with all modern science the Mayan calender was correct to within two days over thousands of years. The Mayans calender calculated days, weeks, months and years all the way from their time to December 21, 2012 where ir abruptly ends with no explanation. No one in modern times can know why for sure but there are many theories that range from good to bad. The best being a dawning of a new age, some believe the age of Aquarius which will usher in a new dawn of peace and enlightenment for all man kind where a higher being such as god or another race from space returns to take mankind to the next level. Or at the far spectrum the end of the earth and mankind as we know it due to global warming causing a new ice age, poles shifting, etc. or an asteroid or comet striking the earth and wiping out all life. No one really knows for sure. The only fact we know for sure is the Mayans were very advanced when it came to astrology and time calculation for what ever reasons some believe they had contact with aliens from another planet as is suggested with drawing, building and art left behind that have survived over thousands of years. We will have to wait and see but the date based on their calender was December 21,2012 or if you add in their miss calculation's December 23,2012.

In 2012 the Planet Venus will transit the Sun again. This transit takes place in a pecular manner. It happened in June 2004 and will happen 8 years later in 2012 and then will mot happen again for about 150 years when it will do so twice eight years apart. This is due to the difference in the Earth's and Venus' orbital times and the inclination of venus' orbit to the ecliptic (orbital plane of the planets artound the Sun) which is about 7 degrees. mercury transits the Sun often but it is so small it cannot be seen without a good telescope. It was possible to see the 2004 Venus transit with binoculars. Of course special solar filters MUST be used or permanent eye damage will result-in less than a seconds time!! Never look at the Sun with any optical aid without the proper solar filters. Go to www.spaceweather.com then on the upper right side of the screen go to June 8,2004 and there is a very nice gallery of pictures of the transit as seen around the world. We here on the East coast of the US saw only the last couple of hours. It started in Europe 19 hours before that.

The rumors are like it is going to be the end of the World. In the Bible there is a part where it mentions: " It will be 1000 but not 2000" referring to this as the Apocalipse in 2012. Astronomers talk about a giant asteroid hitting the Earth at about that time also.

Well its the year the worlds gonna end supposedly and also the 2012 Summer Olympics to be held in London. :)

In reality it is just the date that the Mayan Calendar ends. Don't worry, the world isn't gonna end that day. Just look forward to the Summer Olympics! :D

2012 is supposedly the year the Mayan calander ends, but this is a misconceptions. The Mayans had a complicated calander system which involved decimals and different types of "counts"...similar to how we have decades and centuries.

In 2012 one of the Mayan long counts will end, but this is not the last long count, as some think.

hmm many things .... in the mayan calender 2012 will be predicted to be the worlds end (which is not gonna be CAUSE THEY WERE ON DRUGS) jk.... well its not possible because how in the name of hell can a world come to an end a world weighing more than 20000 billion tons coming to an end not possible unless they refer to humans (life also) then tats possible a meteor crashing and killing us all.... but the world anit gonna come to an end (it will later when the sun expands and takes up earth with its self) .... a mission has been planned by NASA that they will send astronauts to the moon.... and many other things ... its a even number.... its 2012....which is 5.5 years away ....many things
