I read where "unnatural fornication" is punishable by up to 10 years in prison in India and how many gays and lesbians, even an Indian prince have been disowned by their parents. So, for the most part gays and lesbians hide in arranged marriages. When I visit India for business I see many men who are subtly effeminate even though they are married. Besides being disowned by their families do gays and lesbians also fear for their lives in India? I've read that Bangalore and Mumbai are more accepting.

I think homosexuality is something that is very hard to maintain and accept in places such as Asia, due to many religious and cultural beliefs. I am sure many hide it so they don't upset their families... and therefore result in being married to someone of the opposite sex. In some countries where religion has a stronger hold on the people than others would most likely result in death. I read an article once about a Pakistani man who paid his boyfriend's parents a ton of money so they could get married, and once the village found out they stoned both of them to death on their wedding night. It was very sad, but its true.

Many countries have a hard time accepting things that are outside the norm, and therefore can result in unjustifiable consequences. Many countries have cities that are now more liberal and open in their views and therefore more accepting of homosexuality...but many rural and old fashion/old world cities and countries are not accepting of the concept of homosexuality and therefore can pose a threat to one's life and well being if one demonstrates any sign of homosexuality.

Hopefully someday, people will be more willing to accept homosexuality and realize it is just two people who love and care for each other and nothing else.
