hi, NATWEST, NATWEST, NATWEST.
im saying this because they are great. i am with natwest and i have found them very good and caring. plus very understanding. in general the branches are always very good and not just the one i go to but any i happen to walk in. whenever the ques are remotely that little bit 'long' a spare natwest staff comes TO you and ask you what you are there for and if they can do it with you right there and then, they will. so you dont have to wait till you reach the desk. that is cool for me - gives me time to be doing with other things.
bonus reasons why i chose them for my student account are:
when you open a student account, they give you 5 YEARS young persons railcard - wicked because it saves me a third of full priced adult train ticket fares - giving me cheap tickets home to parents, visit friends who are at other uni, or just mad shopping day out in london. normally i think it cost £20 for one year railcard. but they give you 5years long one.
also i hear this year if you join before august they will give you a free webcam on top of the 5years railcard.
benefits of the accounts are their £1500 overdraft facility, where the intrest is at a low minimum. plus they will hook you up with credit card too if you wish (i sed no to this one, bad anough i have £1500 available to me at any time, dont want the possibility of more debt right there)
but hey its your choice. feel free to look around but i did and none appealed to me more than natwest. all the best. if you are waiting for results this august aarrgghh, good luck, fingers crossed, lol.

whichever one gives you a free railcard, it'll save you a fortune as theres no way anyone can afford a car at uni. Used to be HSBC but don't know anymore. Other than that they all offer pretty much the same thing like free overdraft (the only important thing really).

HSBC has an excellent student checking account. Now you don't need a minimum balance to keep in your account and you can find their ATM's everywhere. They even had one in my school student union.
