Why do people keep giving wrong answers when a million people have said the right one already? It stands for:

FÉDÉRATION INTERNATIONALE DE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

It is French. The reason it is FIFA is NOT because it is more stylish, it is because that is the order of letters in French.

In English the name would translate to International Federation of Association Football. (Association Football being the proper name for the sport).
