Best is a relative thing. If you compare the features, picture quality, and battery life of the Creative Zen Vision M (30GB) to the iPod Video 30GB player, the Creative Zen Vision M is superior.

The ZVM has 4 hour video playback time versus 2 hour playback time on the the iPod 30GB. People on Yahoo Answers complain about their iPod battery running low after just a couple music videos. I just flew cross country and watched over 2 1/2 hours of video including a movie and over 10 short videos on a single charge and had plenty of charge left.

The picture quality is better on the Creative ZVM. It has 262,000 colors vs 65,000 on the iPod.

The ZVM is really easy to use. My 7 year old son can operated to browse vides and play them back.

The total cost of ownership is much much less on the ZVM than it is for the iPod when it comes to legitimate options for getting music. iTunes is 99cents a song. The ZVM and other PlaysForSure compatible music players have places to buy songs for 79cents, 88cents, and 99cents. Better yet, for as little as $10 a month, you can fill the ZVM or other PlaysForSure subscription compatible music player with rental music. I've been renting subscription music for almost 3 years now. You can get 5000 songs on the ZVM TODAY for $10 a month whereas that would cost you nearly $5000 on iTunes. Another way of looking at it, is that $5000 would get you 41 YEARS of subscription music. Apple won't let people rent music with iTunes for the iPod.

Apple is using the same components from third parties that other players are using:

Sony MP3 players are terrible. SonicStage=pain.

The Sandisk Sansa e200 series is a great deal. At Best Buy, it's $150 for the 2GB, $200 for the 4GB, and $270 for the 6GB.

It has FM radio, FM recording, voice recording, video pplayback, and support for subsciption services all for a lower price than the respective Nano.

Sony makes a good one with very good battery charge life. A company called Rio makes a decent one thats not expensive. Dell computers does one thats allright.
You have to decide whats most important. Do you want long battery life,or slimness,or ability to hold a lot of music and or vidio.

Try ebay if you can't get an iPod thats brand new. You'll get it for lower price albeit older generation. But for ease of use, iPod can't be beat.
