In my opinion he was undoubtedly, even he didn't show the most outstanding or super tricks in this World Cup,the best player because of the leadership which characterised his game. The rest of "Les Blues" had medium performance, except perhaps Mekelele and Viera, but the midfielder great Zidane made the whole difference. That matters in soccer, the unique talent for one leader like Zidane to inspire and raise the confidence of his mates. Moreover Zidane has proven many times before his remarkable technical skill. He is the best ever virtuoso the world has shown,an athlete we all remember with respect !!

Diving is cheating and real football fans are getting sick of it. C. Ronaldo dives so often it detracts from his skill. Also the fact that he apprarently took pleasure in getting Wayne Roony, his team mate in club football, sent off did not help. As for Zidane, well headbutting is not really an option to solve an argument. Let alone practising the behaviour on a football pitch! I have been sick of Ronaldo's antics for ages (well before the world cup) but was always a fan if Zidane. Not sure what was actually said, but it is a real shame that he reacted that way. Would not say that I hate him, more fell sorry that he ended his football career that way!!

He is an excellent player, famous for his fakes and the way he can make the auld onion bag hang in the air. He is also famous for having a temper, which makes him a bit of a liability; but also a focused, agressive man on the field. You don't reach the status of a world, yes world, class sports athlete by being nice on the pitch. If you disregard Zidane's past history in the world sport of futbol, you are not being fair. There is a French saying: "Il faut vieux chien": "You need an old dog." Congrats to Zidane. The Golden Ball was not a retirement gift, but a well-deserved reward for his stats and performance during the games. Ruff Ruff.

I think this world cup has been way below standard and there is no player that has been outstanding. Only reason there is a fuss over Zidane is because the final is his last game.
