I bought him at Petsmart and since then I bought him two tanks, the first one made him sick so I switched to the second one with more room (10 gallons) and I've nursed it back to health. I don't want to let him go but I have to because I live in school sponsored housing... (Not the small dorms, ACTUAL apartments). I've grown kinda attached to him so I don't know who to give it to. Plus what are the chances someone in this apartment building (non-student) will want a 10 gallon fish tank and recovering goldfish?!

Note that I don't want to kill my goldfish ^^; I just put that there so people wouldn't suggest I do so. Sorry for the confusion!

We can't keep fish in housing. As sad as that sounds... it's a fish. I've know lots of people who had fish, I guess they were less noticeable?

Can you put up a few flyers to see if someone may be interested? Is there an area around where you are with children who may be especially interested?

I don't see why fish would be banned from your apartment, I think that is rediculous. Are you sure that they consider fish as pets? I wouldn't get rid of him. If someone found out you had a fish in your apartment, theres not much they could do but tell you to get rid of it. If you put the tank in a room where he isn't drawing attention to himself, I think that should be enough. Keeping a fish in the tank isn't much different than keeping a tamk with water in it so I think you will be fine.

I concur with the folks suggesting putting up flyers and checking with local pet stores. Letting a non-native species of fish into a local creek or lake is *not* a smart move, however. That is one option I would avoid at all costs. It's potentially harmful to the ecosystem and is, I believe, illegal.

Put him on craigslist in the free section. I'm sure someone will want him. Good luck to you and your fish.

let him out in a pond, or a creek, or some other body of water if you like, but don't kill the poor thing by flushing it. it's incredibly cruel to make something healthy just to kill it.
