It means the soup of the day. Each place makes a special soup and on the menu, it's called Soup De Jour because it can change every day.

Soup de jour? That one is easy!!! The phrase "de jour" traslates from French to "of the day". So, soup de jour means soup of the day, or the Soup Special!!! Bona Petite! That means "good apetite"!!! I know these things because I am French-Swedish-American, and I take a special interest in French culture. I have not yet learned to speak fluent French, but it is on my agenda. I know a few French words and phrases. God bless you.

De jour is French for "of the day." So soup de jour means soup of the day, whatever was made for that day.

It is French for soup of the day. Restaurants use this term because it sounds more cosmopolitan, elegant (even if it is just canned soup!)
