Why is it that we Americans lack a sense of self-responsibility?

WHy is it that some Americans feel that the government and/or taxpayers should pay for everything for them?

Not all Americans are lazy. The government particularly Dem's. have insisted that we the people are not capable of thinking or doing for ourselves.

First, you're talking about potentially two different issues.

The federal government takes around 40% of the money that I make every year. So, are you telling me that I shouldn't expect something back for that money?

As for welfare, that's one of the founding reasons this country was created. In the Preamble to the Constitution, it's one of the four or five main reasons for having a federal government. And Congress's ability raise taxes is primarily to pay for Welfare and Defense. (See Article I Section 8).

So, the reason that so many people think they are entitled to government subsidies is [1] the huge amount of money taken by the government every year, and [2] the fact that Welfare was one of the founding reasons to have the federal government.

BTW, I don't think that has anything to do with self-responsibility. This country is set up so that people cannot just go off and be responsible for themselves. State and federal regulations make it functionally impossible to live independently of the system. So, because we are forced by the government to be part of the national economic system, and because our money is taken from us by the government, the government darn well owes us.

They're the ones that complain when a Democratic government wants to raise their taxes, those damned "tax and spend liberals", but then they cry about how the things that are important to them are underfunded.

They're like children.

because alot of "we the people....." are lazy and want the fedreal govt. to do it for them because they can, and itis less work for them
