horror mostly...but he did write one fantasy book called the eyes of the dragon which is really really good. but his his all time best would have to be his short story the long walk which he wrote under the name richard bachman. he's also got some non-fiction stuff that i haven't read yet. and of course then there is just his regular fiction/screen plays like misery and road to perdition oh and the green mile. all great movies.

Stephen King, is best known for his enormously popular horror novels. King's stories frequently involve an unremarkable protagonist such as a middle-class family, a child, or many times, a writer. The characters are involved in their everyday lives, but the supernatural encounters and extraordinary circumstances escalate over the course of the story. King evinces a thorough knowledge of the horror genre, as shown in his nonfiction book Danse Macabre, which chronicles several decades of notable works in both literature and cinema. He also writes stories outside the horror genre, including the novellas The Body and Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption (adapted as the movies Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption, respectively), as well as The Green Mile and Hearts in Atlantis. Stephen King also wrote under the pen name of Richard Bachman.
In King's nonfiction book, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, King discusses his writing style at great length and depth. King believes that, generally speaking, good stories cannot be called consciously and should not be plotted out beforehand but are better served by focusing on a single "seed" of a story and letting the story grow itself from there.

Very popular horror stories, although not all are horror. He has written great short stories such as :
The Body: turned into a movie called Stand By Me
Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption
The Running Man (Richard Bachman who is Stephen King)
He is also a very entertaining columnist for Entertainment Weekly.

Stephen King is a great story teller! For a long time he was my favorite author. Read "The Stand". That took genius!!! He writes scary, chilling stories such as "Thinner", "The Shining", and "Cujo" and many others. Google "Stephen King" and you will find many books to scare and alarm you!!! You can also find him at Amazon, com or Barnes & Noble. Just use their search engines. For a great Sci-Fi read, try "The Tommyknockers". Now I mostly read my Bible. May God bless you.

He writes fiction- sometimes science fiction (like "Tommyknockers"). All of his books seem to have one thing in common, and "element" of terror/horror, with just enough "realism" (when it comes to parts of the story that pertain to "everyday life" for most people). The mixture works- it grabs the reader and pulls them into the story itself. He's a great author. I've read almost every single one of his books- and they are many!

He writes full on horror, adventure, quasi-Western and reference books and movie screenplays. While his subject matter is fantastical, his dialog and character development are some of the best in the business.

Blood curling thrillers, the movies make some of his books somewhat more scary.

He writes long books with really crappy endings (Gunslinger series, Tommyknockers, etc.).
His best work was the short stories from his early career (NightShift).
