I'm not affiliated with any party, but I'd say the same as every other war really: land money and power.

The troops are in Iraq so we can give the Iraqi people freedom and democracy whether they want it or not! And if they don't know what to do, we'll stay there and give them guidance.

The troops are also there so we can have Americans killed off to help keep the population down.

And most importantly, the troops are there to insure that the oil will eventually flow again so that the Big Oil companies can make more profits and what's good for Big Oil is good for America.

The question should be my dear, "How Many Republicans as well as Democrats know why the troops are in Iraq".

Officially, ask Tony Snow (Bush's Press Secretary) and see what he tells you this week.

Why we are there:

Imminent threat from WMDs... ooh wait scratch that one

Direct link from Saddam Hussein to Osama Bin Laden, ling Hussein to 9/11.... oops never mind

Saddam was a brutal dictator that tortured and killed his own people... But he has been doing that since he has been in power, so why invade now?

Bringing democracy to the middle east... OK we will go with that one. That way if you don't support Iraq you don't support democracy, and if you don't support democracy you hate America!

Iraq was a mistake, but we are there now and we will be there until we fix that mistake, or are asked to leave by the Iraqi government.

We are in Iraq because Saddam has Weapons of Mass Detruction, is trying to obtain nuclear weapons, and is an imminent threat to America.

That was the first excuse. There have been 3 or 4 new ones since then...

I am not a Democrat but a free thinking American who feels govt. is not in charge of my life or business. That said, Iraq is the staging ground for our future. Have patience and you will see why!

To seize control of the oil.

Hopefully they can start a civil war that will led to the US owning all of the oil.

I would like to see some neutron warhead rockets flying across boarders over there.

Just because someone votes democratic does not mean they are blind.

several reasons-oil, put in a puppet government that follows our national interests, and to build military bases in the middle east and have a precsence there. but bush gave lies-wmds and the connection to bin laden.

Democrats (on here) have no concept. Ask for an answer from non-Dems and I'll explain.
